WANA (Apr 07) – The Deputy Head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee stated that during the committee’s meeting with the Foreign Minister, the topic of a letter from the U.S. President to Iran was raised. It was mentioned that Iran had communicated its willingness to pursue indirect negotiations aimed at securing the interests of the Iranian people.

Abbas Moqtadaei, elaborating on the session, said the meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Araghchi, and a significant portion focused on the Ministry’s strategies, approaches, and actions regarding regional developments and current affairs.

He noted that the letter from the U.S. President to the Islamic Republic of Iran was discussed, and Iran had conveyed the idea of indirect negotiations to serve the nation’s interests. It was mentioned that Iran, based on established precedents, has cooperated with Oman to exchange views with the U.S., and Oman is expected to play a role in facilitating such communication.

Moqtadaei added: “Now the ball is in America’s court, as Iran has repeatedly demonstrated goodwill. While maintaining strong defense and security readiness, Iran has kept the window of diplomacy open and proposed resolving issues through diplomatic means. We reject any form of threat and see political engagement as a constructive path forward.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the parliamentary session, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized that no round of negotiations between Iran and the U.S. has taken place so far.

Araghchi, who had attended the session to brief lawmakers on the latest developments in foreign policy and Iran-U.S. relations, said: “We have expressed our stance. We are advocates of diplomacy and dialogue — indirectly, of course — but to be clear, no negotiations have been held to date.”

Regarding U.S. Senator Tom Cotton’s remarks that the American president prefers a deal with Iran similar to the 2003 Washington-Tripoli agreement, Araghchi responded bluntly: “Only in their dreams.”

As for the special meeting convened by French President Emmanuel Macron with key ministers and senior military and security advisors concerning Iran, Araghchi said: “They have carried out their own assessment. Every country is entitled to its own evaluations and analysis. However, if they take any action in this regard, we will consider them complicit in any hostile act against our nation. But as far as can be understood, this meeting was merely for analysis and assessment.”
